National Park Competition

Northumberland National Park is running a photographic competition aimed at visitors to and residents of Northumberland. The Park would like scenic photographs of the area which will then be turned into “PhoArt” to be included into next years Northumberland National Parks calendar.

PhoArt is a technique developed by Duncan Elson from Rothbury. It combines the skills of the photographer with his skills as a digital artist to produce a picture that is a combination of painting and photograph. “This technique allows me to add atmosphere to a picture that the camera alone cannot capture.” says Duncan, “In the same way as a traditional artist would use “Artistic Licence”, I can add or take away items from a picture, change composition, alter colours and so on, ending up with a picture that is truly unique.”

The calendars, including the winning pictures, will be on sale from the Northumberland National Parks Offices from October this year.
